The Family Reading Partnership aspires to have every child reading or read to every day. An estimated 20-25% of local kids go into Kindergarten with very few experiences with books at home. FRP strives to remedy that by providing free board books from 2 months to 4 years old at every pediatric well-child check up through the Books to Grow On program. The Bright Red Bookshelf program also offers free gently-used books for kids to take at locations all over the county. Head Start and daycare providers can use the Traveling Books program for free. This initiative sends a reader with a rotating crate of 20 books to each location. After 2 weeks the reader comes back and swaps out the books for a new set.
If you are interested in contributing to FRP, they accept monetary and book donations, and are always looking for more volunteers.
