Every person has the right to use the bathroom in peace. For many, traditional gender restrooms do not provide the proper amenities and have the potential of being dangerous spaces. All-gender restrooms provide safety and security and promote further community engagement.

How to make restrooms accessible to all:

  • Recognizable and easy to understand signage
  • Ramps
  • Sanitary disposal bins for menstrual products
  • Hand rails
  • Changing tables

Beginning Implementation

  • If the restroom is single stalled yet gendered, change the restroom sign
  • If it’s a multi-stall restroom, look at implementing doors that reach from the ground to the ceiling
  • Consider which aspects of the restroom may make it inaccessible to some people
